What is staging Your Home To Sell?
The new popular concept of home staging is simply making your home look good so you can get a better price in a shorter time on the market. The concept can run counter to the usual approach of home design. Usually the aim of interior design is to make the home stylish while emphasizing the owners’ personal tastes. In staging the aim is to make the home look as neutral as possible so that the buyers can imagine themselves living there, no matter how different their tastes may be from that of the sellers. Staging is also accentuating the positive and distracting the eyes of potential buyers from the unfavorable features of the home.
Staging is not to be taken as a critique of the homeowners tastes. Rather it is about selling the house quickly for a good price. It is not personal! The goal of staging is to put a “house’s best foot forward” and give it the gloss of amarketable commodity. Staging your home to sell will assure that your home will appeal to many not a few.
Why Stage Your Home to Sell?
Can you sell your home without “staging” it to sell? Yes, however, even in the best markets, having important staging steps taken care of will help see your home much sooner and closer to your suggested price. Perspective buyers should see the “bones” of the property and not be distracted by clutter, personal items or unusual color schemes.
The evidence about how well staging works isn’t just anecdotal. A study conducted in 2004 by the National Association of Realtors showed that staged homes sold 50 per cent faster than non-staged homes. And, in 2003, the Wall Street Journal reported that in a moderate market, prices of staged homes increased from two to the per cent.
